HOLIDAY UPDATE
The sports development unit at Wellingborough Council teamed up with Northampton Town Football Club to deliver a series of football coaching sessions for children during the February half term break.
Sports Development Officer, Quintin Allen said, "The young people always have a fantastic time on our courses and we pride ourselves on the reputation we have across the county for delivering quality grassroots opportunities. The numbers have generally been good but we do possess a greater capacity to deliver so I would encourage more children to access our provision. For us it is not about generating income, we are not a commercial organisation. We are using excellent coaches to lead the sessions and they are very capable of tailoring sessions to suit individual participant needs irrespective of whether a child has limited ability and lots of enthusiasm or a regular school or club player. Fun and skill development is at the core of all our courses and we place a massive emphasis on progressing players in a safe environment that is conducive to promoting enjoyment and enhancing performance."
The formalised relationship with Northampton Town is relatively new and was resultant of a mutual appreciation that has evolved through the Northamptonshire County Football Association's determination to get organisations to forge links and share best practice.
The County Football Development Manager, Kirsty Frior said, " We call ourselves the Football Family and like all good families have at our heart the best interest of those that look toward us for guidance."
Northampton Town Football Club currently operate the only Charter Standard holiday scheme in the County.
The Charter Standard is a nationally recognised accreditation kite mark that parents should look for when selecting a football activity for their children. The courses organised by Wellingborough Council in association with DC Leisure take place during all school holidays.
