GIRLS MAKE NORWICH TRIP
The Norwich City Girls Centre of Excellence played host to Northampton Town Girls Centre of Excellence. The U10s, 12s and 14s were all in action.
The Cobblers had a slow start to the game and conceded in only the second minute. Town didn't let their heads drop though and put together some excellent passing moves which led to attempts at goal. Their persistence paid off when a flowing move ended with Maire McGuire poking the ball through the legs of the Norwich Goalkeeper.
The game was to take a lot of twists and turns and Norwich scored another after some poor defending from Northampton. During the second third of the game both teams played some good football and Northampton were causing the Norwich girls problems with good delivery into the penalty area. Maire McGuire swung a great ball in from the left wing which presented Emily Cattle with a chance to score, but Emily's effort went the wrong side of the post. A couple of minutes later Charlie Bennett put a left footed cross over from the same area, and it was converted by Lacey Walton at the back post.
In the last third of the game Norwich scored another goal before good work on the right wing saw Emily Cattle's cross tapped in at the back post by Ellen McMenzie. A lack of concentration by Northampton in defence and failing to clear their lines allowed Norwich to score two more goals late on. Northampton's Lacey Walton was awarded Player of the Match.
