GRAY CONTENT WITH COVENTRY WORK OUT
Stuart Gray was generally happy with the performance of his side in Saturday's 1-1 draw with Coventry City at Sixfields.
"It was a good work out for us," said the Cobblers boss.
"We were facing a quality side but I thought in the first half we showed them too much respect. We said at half time that we needed to be closer to them and get tighter to them.
"Ian Henderson got a bad gash to the head early on. It would taken ten minutes to stitch up and although he wanted to go back out, there was no point in taking any risks. It was a very competitive game and it did us good. Ian was brave enough to out his head in where it hurts but he will be OK for Wednesday.
"I was disappointed we started slowly. This is our patch and we should not be fearful or too respectful of any team coming here and we said that to the boys at half time.
"The boys kept going well though, and generally I am happy with where we are, and although we just lack a bit of sharpness that will come with match practice.
"Chris Doig is seeing a specialist on Monday and then he should be having an injection and 2 or 3 days after that he should be able to join in full training, but his injury has dragged on a little bit longer than we originally hoped.
"We always knew Giles Coke would take a little longer to be fit, but he is a longer term signing and we are not rushing him. Brett Johnson tweaked a groin last week but he will be ready in a few days.
"Teams from a higher level think quicker and never switch off and that kept us on our toes in this game.
"I thought Andy Holt was the best player on the pitch for us against Coventry. He is a threat and will cause teams problems this season, we just need to supply him with enough quality.
"I thought it was a very good save from their defender for the penalty! It was hard for the referee, he had no real choice to send him off as their lad had denied us a certain goal, even though you do not want to see anyone sent off pre-season."
"As we have said we are on the look out to add to the squad, but that may take until the last week of pre-season."
