Stuart Gray was less than happy that his Northampton Town team were left to settle for just one point from Saturday's 2-2 draw at Prenton Park.

"At 2-0 we should have seen the game out and I was very disappointed in our defending for their equaliser," he said.

"It was a poor goal to concede and really we have thrown away the two points. You are never guaranteed to win the first ball but if you don't win that you need to make sure you win the second ball.

"The players gave everything, I can't fault their effort or commitment but in the end perhaps tired minds have cost us the win.

"When you are 2-0 up you shouldn't allow the opposition back into the game and I'm very disappointed. In saying that if you'd have said before the game that we would come away with a point we'd have been delighted with that and to come away from Tranmere with a point is still a good result.

"We scored two very good goals and the movement for our second was excellent. Even at 2-2 we had a couple of good chances to score a third but I'm just so disappointed we didn't win the game.

"Our ball retention needs to be better and we need to start seeing games out. Maybe it shows how far we have come since January when we are disappointed with a draw at the team who are second in the league but this game was there to be won.

"Tranmere play to their strengths. We knew we would need to combat that and for the majority of the game we did but you to make sure that your concentration levels don't drop until the referee blows that final whistle.

"Andy Holt came off because he has got a bit of a tight hamstring but hopefully he will be OK for Millwall on Tuesday night."
