Northampton Town hosted Leyton Orient at Sixfields for the first of two successive home matches. Stuart Gray made one change to the side that had won at Gillingham, welcoming Poul Hubertz back from suspension at the expense of the departed Dean Bowditch.

The first effort at goal came from the visitors on 4 minutes, but Adam Boyd shot over after Adam Chambers had cut the ball back into his path. For the Cobblers, a neat turn from Ryan Gilligan created a shooting opportunity for the former Watford youngster and his driven tenth minute effort was not too far wide.

The Cobblers were ahead on 14 minutes. Poul Hubertz played the ball back into the path of Giles Coke, the midfielder breaking beyond the Orient defence to supply a calm finish beyond Stuart Nelson.

Stuart Gray's side were constructing a number of quality passing moves. After one such passage of play where they strung more than 15 passes together, Ryan Gilligan's dummy gave Danny Jackman a shooting opportunity but his effort was over the bar.

On 39 minutes Mark Bunn made a fine reaction stop after Paul Terry's volley - that was going wide - deflected off the back of O's striker Adam Boyd to head goalwards.

Brian Saah was booked after a 42nd minute foul on Danny Jackman before Orient were forced into a change, John Melligan replacing Sean Thornton.

Soon after the start of the second half Adam Chambers was booked for a trip on Hubertz, before Stephen Purches came on for Sam Oji as Orient made their second substitution.

Mark Hughes made an excellent challenge to deny Boyd on 56 minutes, before a crude challenge by Melligan on Gilligan saw the Orient man cautioned. Gilligan was booked for his reaction.

Orient's final change saw Wayne Corden replace Jason Demetriou.

Poul Hubertz met a 70th minute free kick from Daniel Jones with a powerful header but Nelson was in the right place to make the save, before the Cobblers doubled their lead on 77 minutes.

Jason Crowe was tripped in the area by Tamira Mkandawire and after taking advice from his assistant, Mr Singh pointed to the spot. Poul Hubertz stepped up to score, the first Cobblers player to score from the spot since Boxing Day 2006.

Stuart Gray then made his first change bringing Ian Henderson on for Gilligan, before the newly introduced substitute was booked after a handball offence.

Andy Holt came on for Giles Coke, as moments later Mark Bunn was booked for what the referee adjudged to be timewasting.

There were 4 additional minutes, but the Cobblers lead was never threatened and they recorded their second successive victory.
