Alex Dyer was delighted to score his first senior goal in his first Sixfields start against Luton Town on Saturday.

"I saw Daniel Jones get the ball out wide and when he put the cross in I just gambled and luckily got my head on it," said the 17 year old.

"At first I wasn't sure that it was a goal because I thought the linesman might have given an off-side but luckily it wasn't and it was really nice to get a goal.

"It was a vital three points for us on Saturday and we still believe that we can get into the play-offs.

"Results went OK for us on Saturday and although Leeds won we are still only six points off the top six and until it's mathematically impossible we will be going all out to try and get into the play-offs.

"The gaffer told me earlier in the week that I was going to be playing and although I didn't feel my general play was great at times hopefully it will prove to be a good platform for me to build on.

"I was delighted with my goal but I thought when we were under pressure in the second half I could have maybe got on the ball a bit more.

"I've had a taste of playing for the first team now and hopefully I can stay in the team.

"It's going to be a tough game at Southend but we showed against Swansea that if we play at our tempo we can perform against the top teams.

"I think on our day we are more than capable of beating anyone in this league and we will go into the game full of confidence that we can get the three points."
