DOIG DELIGHT AT RETURN TO ACTION
Chris Doig is thrilled to be back in action and is very happy to have played his part in Saturday's 2-0 win over Oldham Athletic.
"To be honest I'm just absolutely delighted to be back playing again," he said.
"At Southend I just wanted to get through the 90 minutes and that was my aim again on Saturday.
"It's been a very frustrating five months for me but it's great to be back and I am just gaining confidence with every game I play.
"I know in my mind that I'm capable of playing and hopefully with the more games I play the more my performances will improve.
"I ruptured my hamstring which they were going to operate on but in the end they decided there was no point. I've now basically only got two hamstrings instead of three and it's just a case of maintaining the strength in those hamstrings.
"It's not a problem only having the two hamstrings instead of three it's just a case of keeping on top of it. I've got through two games now so hopefully it's so far so good.
"The lads have been fantastic this season and I think the team has exceeded a lot of expectations.
"I think the squad has perhaps lacked that little bit of strength in depth when we've picked up injuries and maybe we've lacked that little bit of extra quality at times but hopefully we'll add to the squad in the summer and that will then allow us to push on next season.
"We've got two more games left and we want to finish the season off strongly. We want to finish as high as we can and get as many points as we can and then hopefully we'll be able to kick on again next season."
