2007/2008 REVIEW - OCTOBER
The Cobblers began the month with a game at Millwall and after severe traffic problems meant a delayed kick-off, goals from Alan Dunne and Paul Robinson secured a 2-0 victory for the Lions.
It was a bad night all round for the Cobblers in East London with both Chris Doig and Jason Crowe picking up hamstring injuries in the opening quarter of an hour at the New Den.
4 days later and with Alex Russell's loan spell from Bristol City extended for a further month, an Andy Kirk first half double helped the Cobblers see off managerless Port Vale at Sixfields.
On-loan Southampton striker David McGoldrick made it 2-1 early on in the second half but Vale, who included in their 16 three former Cobblers players, Ashley Westwood, Marc Richards and Paul Harsley, couldn't build on McGoldrick's strike.
Next up it was the live Monday night clash at Luton with the Sky Sports cameras treated to two cracking strikes, first from Hatters winger Darren Currie and then from Bradley Johnson. Kevin Blackwell's side eventually won the game 4-1 thanks to two Matthew Spring penalties and a goal from veteran striker Paul Furlong.
The Cobblers then continued their good home form with a 2-1 victory over Cheltenham, substitute Ryan Gilligan grabbing the winner after Andy Kirk's initial effort had been cancelled out by a header from Damien Spencer.
The final game of the month saw the Cobblers record their first away win of the campaign, Alex Russell's 25-yard perler enough to see off Oldham 1-0 at Boundary Park.
The win up at Oldham saw the Cobblers end the month 10th in the table, a point off the play-offs and only 4 points behind second placed Swansea City.
Away from the action on the pitch, and the end of October also brought to an end the council's Sixfields re-development consultation period.
