GRAY WORKING ON HIS SUMMER TARGETS
Stuart Gray is already working hard to strengthen the Northampton Town squad for next season.
"I probably need to bring in two strikers but unfortunately good centre forwards don't come cheap," he said.
"I've said to the Chairman that I may need some money to spend in order to strengthen the team in that area but it will be down to the wages as well.
"Hopefully we will have some money to spend but the pressure will then be on me to spend that money wisely to make sure we bring in the right type of player.
"Hopefully we will get the re-development we need and if then that provides us with money to spend on the team I've got every confidence that I will spend that money wisely.
"If a player becomes available I think can strengthen the team then I will make every effort to bring that player in.
"The Chairman knows my wish list but I want players to come here for the right reasons. I've got a young energetic side but with the likes of Poul Hubertz and Joe Burnell leaving I might need to add one or two experienced players as well.
"We have to be realistic in terms of the money we've got but more often than not it comes down to the player's wages.
"We sell the football club to new players by finishing ninth but we also sell the football club by our plans for re-development which we need to happen.
"I think the Chairman will do everything he can to keep hold of our better players and I don't want to sell anyone but as I've said I won't stand in any player's way if they have the chance to better themselves.
"Hopefully we can achieve things here next season by pushing on again but if the money is right and the player has the chance to play in the Championship or the Premier League then it wouldn't be right for me to stand in their way and the last thing you want is an unsettled player at the football club.
"Finishing 9th, there are bound to be clubs looking at our players but that's always the price you pay for doing well.
"Looking back we have had a thin squad and we can't afford any injuries or suspensions but I think that sometimes it's the team that finishes a game that is more important than the one that starts.
"I think if we can have a stronger bench next season than maybe I've had at times this season who knows where we can finish?
"Wolves didn't end up making the play-offs which was a bit disappointing from our point of view because I think both Daniel Jones and Mark Little will now be working with Mick McCarthy for next season.
"I'm sure Mick will just want to get pre-season out of the way and if anything does happen it probably won't be until well into the season unless Mick says they are both available for transfer and if that happens I'll be knocking on the Chairman's door.
"With the influx of foreign players at the top level that has allowed us to utilise the loan market and that is possibly something we will look at again for next season.
"As I've said before though I will only bring players here that are better than the ones we've got and I want players to come here for the right reasons. The players we've brought in on loan have all wanted to play football and have done very well for us.
"I've gone on record to say that I would have bought Kenny Deuchar back here because I think there was raw talent to work with but he got a fantastic move to America.
"I think at any level you need a centre forward who can hold the ball up and that's why someone like Didier Drogba is worth his weight in gold."
