Northampton Town manager Stuart Gray is hoping that his long term interest Liam Davis will pay dividends.

"Liam is a player I've been tracking for a while, I saw a lot of him playing for Coventry reserves last season and he actually played against us here in a pre-season friendly last year as well," he said.

"Tim Flowers and Iain Dowie both speak very highly of him, I am getting a similar type player to Daniel Jones and if anything he is a bit quicker than Daniel.

"He's tall, a good athlete and hopefully he will really be able to get his career going now at Northampton.

"I don't want to pigeon hole people and although he is mainly a left-sided player he can also play wide right as well.

"The main thing is that he wants to get back to playing football and coming here is a great opportunity for him."
