The Double Club works alongside the 'Playing for Success' Cobblers Study Centre teaching numeracy, literacy and ICT through football. So far 15 students from year 8 at Weston Favell School have been participating in a variety of lessons. They have been using official match day photographs (from Pete Norton) to write captions, speech and thoughts for the players and action. They have been exploring football terminology and adjectives to use in match reports and describing the NTFC stadium.

Recently, students went on a stadium tour to Sixfields (led by 'Playing for Success' and Cobblers Study Centre teacher Anna Letts) to learn about the club, its players and facilities. They saw behind the scenes of a professional football club. They looked around the players lounge, boardroom, changing rooms, tunnel, press board area, dugout, directors area, Carlsberg Lounge and executive restaurant. They admired the trophies and old photos plotting the club's history and development. They were lucky enough to watch the first team and youth team in their training session as well as get a few autographs. They chatted to youth team coach Sean Parrish as well as to all the players including Sean Dyche, Liam Dolman, Bradley Johnson and Jason Crowe.

Afterwards Double Club pupils worked on a NTFC quiz, answering questions as to what they had learnt on the tour. Such as Sixfields' anti-racism policy "Sixfields Tackles Racism" and "Show racism the red card", disabled spectator access, CCTV coverage, pitch measurements/information, the role of the stewards and first aid points. They then visited the club shop to do some maths. They talked with shop manager Janet about merchandising, pricing, marketing, sales and floor layout. The children were very impressed by the amount of quality items on display and wanted to buy them all!

The children behaved excellently and really enjoyed themselves. They were totally engaged in learning about the Cobblers and showed a great deal of enthusiasm for their local team. A few already play in local leagues and regularly games. Double Club and school teacher James Lucas attended the trip also.

NTFC community coach Trudie Kirby visits the school once a week for the football practical. Double Club students play small sided games, practice skills such as passing, dribbling, tackling and marking. Over the last few weeks, students have improved their game and have had a lot of fun.
